Small Bathroom Renovations in Sydney

A compact bathroom that feels twice the size.

Picture stepping into a small bathroom that finally feels open, a wall-hung vanity, a frameless walk-in shower, light bouncing off large-format tile, and room to move where there never was any. For over 18 years, Empire Bathrooms has designed and built small bathroom renovations for Sydney homeowners, turning cramped, awkward rooms into calm, functional spaces that feel far bigger than they measure.

Sydney’s small bathroom specialists

In a small bathroom, there’s nowhere to hide a shortcut.

Empire Bathrooms has designed and built small bathroom renovations across Sydney since 2007. You get compact rooms planned to use every centimetre in our Dural showroom, priced up front, and built by in-house tradespeople.

From the Hills District through to the North Shore, that’s more than 2,733 completed bathrooms and counting, including the tight ensuites and compact main bathrooms other renovators find hardest. Every renovation is handled by our own team, your plumbing, tiling, carpentry and waterproofing all done by full-time Empire tradespeople, so one crew is accountable from demolition to handover.

One licensed team, in-house

Licensed across building, plumbing, drainage and waterproofing, one of the only bathroom companies in Sydney that certifies its own waterproofing. In a small bathroom, where every surface sits close to water, that is exactly where things tend to go wrong, which is why every bathroom we build carries a 10-year leak-free guarantee.

See and touch your selections first

Our Dural showroom carries premium tiles, tapware, vanities, screens and cabinetry, including the compact, space-smart fixtures that make a small bathroom work. Our in-house interior designers help you pull it into one considered scheme at no cost. Ask us about our AI-generated visual mockups, so you can see your small space transformed before you commit.

Empire Bathrooms recently completed a total renovation of our small ensuite. From the first contact with Michael we found him to be totally professional and helpful, providing very practical information to help guide us through the process. Every one of Michael’s different trades people were well presented, polite and punctual. The entire team worked seamlessly and the job was completed in record time. The quality of work was excellent and we are absolutely thrilled with the result.

Small Bathroom Renovation Sydney
Sound familiar?

Feeling boxed in by your bathroom?

No room to move. Nowhere to put anything. A vanity that swallows the floor and a shower you have to squeeze into. Maybe you have been told a bath and a decent shower simply will not fit, or that the layout “is what it is.” A small bathroom is the hardest room in the house to get right, which is exactly why it rewards planning and experience over guesswork.

The good news is that most of what makes a bathroom feel cramped is fixable without moving a single wall.

The design principles

How we make a small bathroom feel bigger

This is where a small bathroom renovation is won or lost. These are the moves Empire’s designers use to open up a compact Sydney bathroom, and the reason each one works.

Wall-hung vanity

Floating the vanity off the floor shows more tile underneath, which tricks the eye into reading the room as larger, and gives you a clean line to sweep under.

Wall-hung toilet with an in-wall cistern

Hiding the cistern in the wall reclaims up to 200mm of depth and removes a bulky visual block.

Frameless glass and walk-in or wet-room showers

Losing the framed screen and shower hob removes the visual “wall” in the middle of the room, so the eye travels the full space.

Large-format tiles

Fewer grout lines make floors and walls read as continuous surfaces, which makes a small room feel calmer and bigger. Running the same tile up the wall and into the shower reinforces it.

A cavity sliding door

A door that slides into the wall claims back the entire swing radius, often the difference between a workable and an unworkable layout.

Recessed shower niche

Storage built into the wall cavity keeps bottles off the floor and ledges without stealing a millimetre.

Oversized and backlit mirrors

A large mirror reflects light and depth and effectively doubles the perceived space.

Vertical and corner storage

Tall, shallow cabinetry and corner basins use the space most small bathrooms waste.

A light, consistent palette ties it together. The result is a bathroom that photographs and lives much larger than its floor plan.

What clients ask for most

Small bathroom layouts we specialise in

You are not being fitted to a template. Empire designs to your exact room and how your household uses it.

Compact main bathrooms

Especially in older Hills District homes, where the footprint is fixed but the layout can be reworked.

Ensuites

Including narrow and awkward runs, squeezing a real shower, toilet and vanity into a tight space.

Apartment and unit bathrooms

Planned around strata rules, lift access and building hours.

Powder rooms and second bathrooms

Where a small, high-impact refresh adds real value.

Renovate now, pay your way

A beautiful bathroom is one of the best investments you can make in your home, and you shouldn’t have to put it off until the timing is perfect. We’ve partnered with Innovative Financing, a lender who often finds more equity in your home than the big banks can, with genuinely competitive rates. They also offer post-renovation valuations, which factor in the value your new bathroom adds and can make all the difference in getting your finance approved.

Extremely professional and courteous. A linen cupboard taken out to give the Bathroom more space. A very exciting process made easier by humour, good natured workers and attention to detail. I was high impressed with the whole process and feel very satisfied and happy to be recommending this company.

Mike and the team at Empire Bathrooms were punctual, professional and did not disappoint from start to finish. Their products are of great quality and the recommended floor plan for what was a challenging layout turned out better than what we could have imagined.

Complete small bathroom renovations with Empire Bathrooms start from $19,980. Keeping the existing plumbing layout keeps costs at the lower end, while moving fixtures or choosing premium finishes lifts it toward $30,000 or more. You receive a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins.
Most small bathrooms take around two to three weeks on site from demolition to handover. Apartments may need a little longer for lift bookings and strata coordination. Your completion date is set in the contract before work starts.
Sometimes, depending on the footprint. In very tight spaces a generous walk-in shower or a compact shower-over-bath often works better than forcing both in. Empire’s designers will show you what genuinely fits your room at the free consultation.
Keeping the toilet, shower and vanity in place is the single biggest way to control the budget, because it avoids new drainage, waterproofing and tiling. Where a layout change is worth it, Empire prices both options so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.
